About me

Engineer first, leader by necessity — curious about everything in between.

I'm Umair Awan, based in Lahore. I've spent 18+ years writing code, then architecting systems, then building and leading the teams that build them — currently as CTO at ITBeam. What hasn't changed is the instinct to take a messy problem and find the smallest, sturdiest system that solves it.

Outside client work, I founded PITF (Pakistan Information Technology Forum) to connect engineers and CXOs across the local tech community, and I still teach occasionally — a habit left over from a few years as a visiting CS lecturer. I travel when I can, mostly to disconnect from a screen for a while.

How I work

Systems over heroics

Durable process and architecture beat individual heroics — I build so the team doesn't need a hero.

Ship, then learn

Especially with AI: prototype fast, put it in front of real users, and let evidence drive the next iteration.

Mentor deliberately

From lecturing to leading engineering teams — I look for chances to grow the people around a project, not just the project.
